LONDON: VORES ÅNDELIGE HJEM!


I mere end sytten år har Morris+Company baseret sine aktiviteter i Londons østlige ende. I en lang periode med konstant vækst har vi besat en række forskellige rum; i ombyggede industrirum, over butikker og i kældre, hvor vi har delt skrivebordsplads med andre. Men uanset beliggenhed har vores studie-rum altid repræsenteret et hjem hjemmefra. Et sted for udveksling, en åndelig base for ideer, dialog, kreative bestræbelser, for innovation og udforskning.

Men pandemien har frembragt mange nye sandheder, som har udfordret vores normer, især at alle de kreative træk i en arkitekturpraksis og proces skal finde sted i studiet. Teknologiske fremskridt kombineret med ​​en global pandemi har forstærket potentialet for fleksible og asynkrone arbejdsmønstre. Disse faktorer rejser samtidig vigtige spørgsmål om kontorets rolle, potentialet for at distribuerede arbejdsmetoder, teknologiens og det fysiske rums kombinerede rolle. Efterhånden som vi nærmer os vores tredje årti, hvor vores systemer, metoder og team har udviklet sig, er muligheden for at reflektere og transformere vores studie-drift opstået.

I 2022 vil vi flytte til nye lokaler, længere mod øst ind i det bankende hjerte af Hackney, Londons virkelig kreative distrikt. Bosætter vi os i et tidligere modeshowroom, fordelt på tre sammenhængende etager, vil vores nye studie være dybt repræsentativt for kulturen i vores praksis.

Det vil være rumligt generøst, offentligt tilgængeligt, målrettet organiseret og realiseret gennem cirkulære designprincipper. Det vil understøtte oprigtige fleksible arbejdsmetoder gennem cloud-baserede teknologier. Det vil være et mødested for arrangementer. Det bliver et værksted for produktion og eksperimenter. Det vil være vært for andre virksomheder og kreative. Og det vil eksemplificere Morris+Company’s kulturelle filosofi om retfærdighed, støtte, mentorskab og bevidsthed; et Idéhus.

Aberfeldy New Masterplan wins Pineapple Award for Community Engagement In July we won the Pineapple Award for Community Engagement with EcoWorld London, Poplar HARCA, Levitt Bernstein, ZCD ARCHITECTS LTD and LDA Design for the Aberfeldy New Masterplan.
Aberfledy Stories On 30th June we attended the launch of the 'Aberfeldy Stories' exhibition, which features portraits of residents, business owners and community leaders, shot by local photographer J C Candanedo. The display also included information about our work on the Aberfeldy New Masterplan
Camden Design Awards Our R7 workplace, for Related Argent in the northern quarter of the King’s Cross regeneration scheme, was a winner at the Camden Design Award 2022 in the Major Projects Category.
Footprint+ Conference 2022 On 9th June David attended the FOOTPRINT+ Conference 2022, where he joined a panel entitled "Repurposing existing buildings to save embodied carbon", which explored two contrasting approaches to retrofit through our projects North Crescent and Royal Street.
TVC topping out ceremony Celebrating with a "Kagami-biraki" ceremony at the topping out of the new Plot D Television Centre.
LFA Studio Late On 17th June we opened our new studio in Hackney to visitors, as part of the London Festival of Architecture's Studio Lates series. This event gave an insight into our journey of designing around the principals of sustainable strategies for re-use, recycling and flexibility.
"Can architects make a difference?" On 7th June Joe took part in a debate at the Royal Academy of Arts titled "Can architects make a difference?". The event interrogated the collision of architecture and activism, to try to understand what impact architects can really have on the places they design for.
R3 Shortlisted for a Pineapple Award Sugar House Island has been shortlisted for the "Pineapple for Place in Progress" in the Developer's Pineapple Awards 2022.
Belle Vue wins RIBA Regional Award BelleVue was one of 42 projects to receive an RIBA London Regional Award this year.
Tour of the Design District In April we took a trip to the new Design District in North Greenwich, where we were given a tour by Hannah from HNNA and Lynton from Architecture 00.

Photography at Morris+Company Photography is an essential part of our design process; we observe our work predominantly through a photographer’s lens, capturing the model making journey, construction phases and completed buildings that are in use.
